I accompanied my fiancee one day, she was going to get her father  a check up. He was experiencing pain in his stomach, their family though it was some kind of ulcer but my fiancee decided to get profession advice. Later we found out after the doctor interprets the recording, that her father was actually suffering from first stage colon cancer. Though the family was deeply sadden, they are very thankful that they learned about it early.

Due to financial restraint I did not able to enroll in a nursing school,  instead  I enrolled in a lpn school and took up practical nursing course. After 18 months I got my degree and I was able to work in a government hospital. Though my work load and job description was less challenging than a regular nurse, still I have able to provide good care and dedication for my patients. I have seen many cases of suffering individuals and though I cannot take off their pain instantly, still I was able to do something to lessen the pain. I was able to feed the old ones. I was able to clean the wounds and change the bandage of the bed ridden people. True that my chosen line of work is very exhausting at the end of the shift and I do not hold a regular schedule, but nonetheless, I am very satisfy every time I go to bed thinking I have made a difference in the lives of ailing people. But I still want to do more for those people and being a certified nurse will allow me to take on higher responsibility than being a practical nurse. But still the cost of getting to the nursing schools is too much for me.

Good thing a resident doctor told me about the nursing degree online. Though this program I can still maintain my work schedules while working on my nursing degree through their flexible class schedule that really fits my daily routine.  And the best thing about it is that it costs a fraction of the cost of a regular nursing school. After 15 years, we are finally closing the chapter of our education. The moment we have been waiting for has finally arrived. Soon we will part ways and head towards different directions. After a period of time, some of us will be highly successful while others less fortunate but whatever it may, we will surely miss the youthful laughter we shared together, the sorrows and tears we had, the frown of our patient, teachers and most of all our dear alma matter.

Let us keep in mind that graduation is not just an end but is also a beginning. An end to five years of college education but a beginning of more challenges in life. We must face these challenges with courage and sheer determination. We must work hard if we really want to succeed. One of my professors said, “There are no shortcuts in life, the better things are earned the hard way”.
